Property Tax Rebate
Get A Handle On Property Tax Rebate Programs
Detail needs to be implemented in the tax rebate programs. If a person receives any type of government rental subsidy on their property, they are not eligible for a property tax rebate. In some cases, the audit found that people were receiving two rebate checks, one as a single person an another as part of a married couple. Too many mistakes are made concerning who does receive these tax rebates. Sometimes the recipient is someone who has already expired. In all states there should be stricter laws regarding property tax rebate. State governing bodies need to set down more exemptions as far as eligibility for a rebate program. They also should audit more often. In an audit, the misplaced badly distributed money can usually be found and returned to the state. One thing about making people who were really not eligible return their rebate amount is that it isn’t fair. I mean, ordinary people are not experts. They don’t know how these rebate programs work. These misplaced checks are the government’s fault. On the other hand, failure to report your tax rebate is your fault. Whenever a person goes to file their income tax, if they receive a tax rebate check, it must be included in the itemized deductions of Form 1040. It needs to be explained in a particular section of the form, Line 21, just exactly what type of income you are reporting. It must specifically be listed as “property tax rebate” if you are a person who doesn’t claim an exemption for property tax deduction, it is not a requirement by the IRS or state government that you must report the tax rebate check as income. Since in property tax deduction cases, the rebate must be reported, the government gets some of the money back that they pay out in rebates. It is quite obvious that there is too much money being wasted and distributed to the wrong people by government taxing offices. Both the federal government and the state governments within the US really need to get a firm handle and deep a sharp eye out for where these property tax rebate checks are going. |
